Hawk
From Wormhole Sci-Fi MUD Homepage
Clan Hawk were the Wormhole's first clan, created by Rachel in the early days of Wormhole MUD. Indeed, Clan Hawk were in the game in the days before blockers worked properly, so the entrance to their clan house had to be hidden. (There was a secret portal on 'the Ship', now known as the SS Godiva, but that entrance is long gone.) Most of the clans that followed used an allocation of up to 20 rooms in zone 68 (see zones) but Hawkworld had an entire area. This was permissable since it could be visited by players regardless of their affiliation, with just a small clan house at the end of the zone.
Hawkworld presents something of a surreal amalgam of places and creatures described in the songs of space rock band Hawkwind, plus the writings of one-time band member Michael Moorcock, best known perhaps as the creator of Elric. With each room based upon a book, song or poem, Hawkworld presented a baffling and somewhat dangerous trial that players were required to complete, presenting themselves at the gates of the clan house if they wanted to apply for membership.
Despite being the only clan, for many years, with a strict entry requirement and a code of conduct for members, Clan Hawk was at times the largest and richest of the clans. Years later, with membership faltering, the clan was closed, although Hawkworld remained. With the rebirth of Wormhole 2.0 in April 2006, several of the old clans were reinstated, Clan Hawk among them.
