Unexpected Trip
From Wormhole Sci-Fi MUD Homepage
I wrote this for an english assignment a year or two ago. The 'theme' of the assignment was journies, so what better journey to go on than one involving acid. I would have preferred to extend it further, but it was already over the word limit, so it kind of ends abruptly. If you want to comment on it, leave them in the 'talk' for the page please. (Comments are good, I like comments :D)
Unexpected Trip

One night about 6 months ago I was sitting in my dorm room, wondering what to do. I am 19 and at college studying for a degree in Computer Science. I had never done any ‘hard drugs’ before this night, and I didn’t really plan on it. As I sat there, lifeless, staring at the repetitive garbage that is free to air television, I was startled by a knock on my door. I wondered who it was, it was past nine, and nobody came around at this time. I jumped up and opened the door, surprised to see my mate J standing there with a big grin on his face. “You doing anything special tonight dude?” he asked me, still grinning from ear to ear. I explained to him how I was just watching TV and that I was bored out of my mind. I don’t know if it was possible, but his grin seemed to grow. “I’ve scored some acid. Wanna try it with me?” Acid, LSD, d-lysergic acid diethylamide. I had heard about this drug before, and its ability to send one on a crazy trip. I was hesitant at first, but he convinced me it would be fun. We sat down on the couch and I turned the TV off. J produced two tabs from his wallet and gave one to me. We put them on our tongues and let the chemicals dissolve into our bodies. We sat there for what seemed like hours, discussing what we thought it would be like and when it was going to kick in. After what must have been half an hour we decided to go for a walk. At this stage I wasn’t feeling anything and thought the acid must not be having an effect on me. We walked out of the dorm and started crossing the grass to the other side of campus. It was a cool night and the moon was out. I looked up to the sky and realised that it was a dark shade of purple. I told J and he told me he could see it too. “Looks like the acid is finally working” J said as we stood there staring at the purple sky. I looked down and realised that I was no longer standing on the grass, but rather a large blue disc, slowly pulsating with energy. I started to freak out as I looked around and realised I wasn’t within the campus any more, but instead surrounded by bright, coloured discs. I looked at J, who seemed to have noticed the discs as well. “Whatas going on?” I asked him as I lay down on the disc. I was no longer feeling afraid, but rather happy and relaxed. He lay down beside me and explained that the acid had definitely kicked in now. I agreed that we were definitely tripping. Suddenly I noticed that the blue disc I was lying on had sped away from me and was visible only in the distance. I tried to stand up but I could not find anything to grasp. I looked around and realised that I was moving forward at an incredibly fast pace, surrounded only by darkness illuminated in spots with white specks of light. I frantically looked around for J but couldn’t see him anywhere. I thought about him, lying there in the blue light and wondered if he was all right. As I visualised the throbbing blue light I felt myself slow down and start moving backwards. I looked down and saw the blue light as it engulfed me. I sat up and looked around for J. I couldn’t see him anywhere. I called out to him in a panic. Where did he go? I was starting to dwell on bad thoughts when J jumped out from behind a tree and ran up to me. He started excitedly telling me about how he just fell threw the ground and met a group of elves, who helped him find his way back up here. I laughed at his story and told him about my trip out into space and back. I looked at my watch, three am. “We’ve been tripping for five hours” I exclaimed to an amazed J. As I looked at him, his shape started twisting. I blinked and when I looked again J was back to normal. “This is intense.” Said J as he looked to the sky. I followed his gaze and noticed that the purple sky was no longer a purple colour, but rather a bright green. As I looked into the green sky I started to feel angry. I looked back towards J and saw that he was now purple. I suddenly felt much better. I explained to him how the green sky was making me angry, and that when I saw purple I calmed down again. We quickly developed a colour-feelings theory. The purple, being a mellow colour was calming, whereas the intensity of the green caused us to get angry. I decided we should head back to my dorm room, as it was getting cold. I took one last look at the green sky and then we raced back to my dorm, angered. As I approached my room I saw that the door was purple. This seemed to calm me, and I entered with J. I looked at the clock on my wall and saw that it was almost half past five. “This acid really screws with your sense of time,” I said as I looked around at the different shades and colours dancing around the walls of my room. As I watched, entranced by the beauty emanating from the shapes I noticed their intensity start to fade away, until there was nothing left but my bare dormitory walls. I turned to J, who was lying on the couch looking normal again. “That was mad” he told me as he stood up and headed towards the door. I thanked him for an awesome journey as he headed down the hall and out of site. “That was the most intense thing I have ever experienced”, I thought to myself as I lay down and went to sleep.
